How Playing Pokémon every night helped me 10x My Productivity

I’ve been playing Pokémon and other video games lately.

Partially, it’s because I reject the modern take of most gurus and influencers. They suggest working endlessly and grinding it out.

Can it work?

Sure. But I’ve found that this tactic isn’t sustainable. You need to get a reward for your efforts, otherwise you’ll burn out.

Over time, you’ll struggle to see the value of the activities you’re doing. And once this happens, it’s game over. You’ll flush your goal down the toilet.

Personally, I’ve found a new strategy that I think works better.

Work on 1–3 key tasks in a single day that you can almost guarantee will move you toward your goal.

Once you do those 1–3 activities, you’re done for the day!

At this point you can enjoy video games, socializing, or whatever it is you like to do, stress-free.

The reality is this: You cannot work endlessly without a trade-off.

You’re either sacrificing the quality of your work, which leads to diminishing returns. Or you’re sacrificing your sanity in the progress of endless work, which leads to burnout and giving up.

You need periodic wins to keep your momentum going and to keep yourself motivated. And Pokémon is the perfect win for you.

(It doesn’t have to be Pokémon or video games. That’s what works for me. For you, it can be something else that gives you pleasure like a non-urgent and non-vital project or hobby).

As Naval Ravikant, the owner and founder of Angelist says, it’s best to sprint periodically, rest, and then reassess. Humans aren’t made to work endlessly. Save that type of work for the machines.

Let me know if this helps and if you’ve found yourself working endlessly for little to no results?
